» Will I receive anything after completing the semi-facilitated courses?

This will depend if you plan to take it for Graduate Credit through MidAmerica Nazarene University beginning March of 2016. If you take it for Graduate Credit you will receive a transcript from MNU upon request. If you choose to take courses for noncredit, you will receive a certificate of completion when you finish the course. The certificate and syllabus are usually sufficient information for an administrator to sign off on Recertification or Professional Development credits, but the report of task completion can also be provided if necessary.

» How do I subscribe?

» Are class participants required to meet at specific times?

No, these courses are designed to be completed independently.  The courses are monitored by a facilitator.  The facilitator will be available to support the student and will review that course work is completed prior to providing a completion certificate or graduate credit.

» How many hours does the coursework require?

About 5, 10, or 15 hours of contact time, depending on the course. Each person’s completion pace and comfort level working in the online environment may impact the hours spent.

» Are there additional costs for the courses?

All materials are available within the course. You are not required to purchase any textbooks or other course material. As a matter of fact, most courses provide excellent reference to FREE online resources to supplement and support your classroom instruction for years to come.

If you choose to receive graduate credit you will register and pay the applicable costs for each course directly through MidAmerica Nazarene University.

» Do the semi-facilitated courses have a start and finish time?

No. These courses are self-paced, so you have access to three courses of choice for 90 days, or all the self-paced courses for a yearly
subscription. There are no set meeting times; all learning is independent. If you take the course for graduate credit through MNU you must complete the course with in one calendar year.

» I’ve never taken an online course before; are your courses easy to access?

Yes, our courses are designed for all levels of learners.  The courses are hosted on Moodle, a learning management system. When you make a purchase you will receive your login information along with a Moodle Navigation link in YouTube.

» The semi-facilitated courses are considered ELA classes, but could some of them count as special education PDPs?

Yes, the semi-facilitated courses can also count for special education PDPs. They are designed to provide you with background knowledge, assessments, teaching strategies for all learners, and techniques to apply your knowledge.

» What is CCSS?

CCSS stands for Common Core State Standards which were developed by the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Many states have adopted these standards and have incorporated them into their current state standards.

Excerpted from corestandards.org: The Common Core State Standards are a set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt to ultimately prepare students to be college and career ready.  The standards establish what students need to learn, but they do not dictate how teachers should teach.

More questions about the CCSS? Please visit the Common Core State Standards Initiative website.

» What makes CLOI Professional Learning different from other courses?

CLOI’s Professional Learning courses are online and accessible 24/7, allowing participants to learn around already busy schedules.  Course work is designed to provide essential skills and knowledge for all educators and align with state standards as well as the Common Core State Standards without the need to purchase additional materials.  The courses are all-inclusive: pre-assessments, background knowledge, instruction for all learning styles, technology tools, and post-assessments.

» What technical equipment is required to complete the courses?

The courses are designed to use basic computer hardware and software. All you need is a computer and consistent access to the internet. A microphone or headset and a web camera would enhance the technical tools you use to complete some of the assignments, but these are not required. We provide a wide range of web tools and programs to use to complete your learning activities that meet varying degrees of technological savvy.
